Bumps back down to practice squad
Bonnafon reverted to the Commanders' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: Bonnafon was elevated for Sunday's regular-season finale versus Dallas after signing with the Commanders' active roster Thursday. The 27-year-old didn't see significant playing time with No. 1 running back Brian Robinson (knee) inactive and Antonio Gibson (knee) on IR, though he did record eight rushing yards while carrying the ball on each of his three offensive snaps.

Bumped up for Week 18
The Commanders elevated Bonnafon from the practice squad Saturday for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
Analysis: Bonnafon has yet to appear in a game this season, though he'll be called upon to provide depth at running back after top running back and rookie Brian Robinson (knee) was ruled out for the regular-season finale versus Dallas. The 27-year-old Bonnafon recorded 29 carries for 185 yards and one touchdown across 22 regular-season games during his first three seasons with Carolina. With Antonio Gibson (knee) and J.D. McKissic (neck) both on injured reserve, Bonnafon should be in line for No. 3…read more

Gets another chance with Washington
The Commanders signed Bonnafon to their practice squad Thursday, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Bonnafon was waived by Washington at the end of training camp earlier this season, but he's since returned to the team's practice squad Thursday, where he'll temporarily serve as additional running back depth. With Brian Robinson (knee) currently listed as questionable for the Week 18 clash against the Cowboys and both Antonio Gibson (knee) and J.D. McKissic (neck) on injured reserve, Bonnafon could find himself on the Commanders' 53-man roster Sunday behind Jonathan Williams and Jaret…read more

Waived by Washington
Bonnafon was waived by the Commanders on Tuesday.
Analysis: Bonnafon signed a reserve/future contract with the Commanders in January, but he failed to do enough this summer to crack the final roster. The running back played in four games with the Panthers last year, operating mostly as a special-teams option. Bonnafon will likely sign with the Commanders' practice squad if he clears waivers.

Bonnafon was placed on the Panthers' practice squad COVID-19 list Thursday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Bonnafon had just reverted to the practice squad Monday after being active in the Panthers' past three games. Any shot he had at another promotion certainly takes a hit as a result of the late-week transaction.

Headed back to practice squad
Bonnafon reverted to the Panthers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Garners three touches
Bonnafon rushed once for four yards and caught both his targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Bonnafon played his first offensive snaps Sunday in just his third appearance this season. While featuring for 20 percent of Carolina's offensive plays enabled him to get the ball a few times, Bonnafon's impact still was very restricted. It remains to be seen whether he'll remain active Week 17 versus the Saints, but Bonnafon once again would figure to factor behind Chuba Hubbard and Ameer Abdullah at tailback if he suits up.

Jockeying with rookie for role
Bonnafon is competing with rookie Chuba Hubbard for the Panthers' No. 2 running back job, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Bonnafon played just two games last season but has been productive in his limited involvement since joining Carolina as an undrafted free agent in 2018. With Hubbard arriving this offseason as a fourth-round pick, however, Bonnafon faces significant competition to serve as superstar Christian McCaffrey's understudy. Bonnafon returns this season after missing all but two games in 2020 due to an ankle injury, Tim Weaver of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Bonnafon has been efficient in his very limited work for the Panthers, averaging 6.6 yards and scoring once on his 28 carries in 18 games over the past two seasons. Heading into 2021, he's expected to compete primarily with rookie fourth-rounder Chuba Hubbard and Rodney Smith for pegging on the depth chart behind superstar Christian McCaffrey, who also returns from hardly playing last year. Could compete for No. 2 role
Bonnafon (ankle) should get the opportunity to compete for the backup role behind Christian McCaffrey during the Panthers' offseason program and training camp, Rushil Vashee of USA Today reports.
Analysis: As Carolina's roster stands ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft, Bonnafon appears set to compete with Rodney Smith and Trenton Cannon for the top backup gig. An ankle injury limited Bonnafon to just two appearances last season, but with a full offseason to get healthy and continue his development, the 25-year-old could earn a more notable role in Year 3. Of course, the Panthers may still add another rookie back to challenge for the top understudy role behind McCaffrey.

Won't return in 2020
Bonnafon (ankle) was placed on season-ending injured reserve Friday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Bonnafon was signed to the active roster Wednesday despite an existing ankle injury, and it appears further tests have revealed a serious issue. The 24-year-old running back won't return this season, and he'll look to make a full recovery for the 2021 campaign. Bonnafon (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday.
Analysis: The second-year back was promoted to the active roster Wednesday but is still nursing an ankle sprain he suffered a few weeks back. The Panthers signed Bonnafon (ankle) to the active roster Wednesday, Will Bryan of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Bonnafon missed a few weeks of practice due to an ankle injury, but he's back to full health just as opportunity knocks. Christian McCaffrey (shoulder) is expected to miss this Sunday's game against the Buccaneers and is labeled week-to-week, so Bonnafon will add depth in the backfield. Returning to practice
The Panthers restored Bonnafon (ankle) from the practice squad injured list Tuesday, Myles Simmons of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Bonnafon has missed nearly a month due to a high ankle sprain, and he could have a role soon if he's truly healthy. Christian McCaffrey left late in Week 9 with a shoulder injury and may miss time, so Bonnafon is a depth option for Carolina's backfield behind Mike Davis and Curtis Samuel.

Dealing with high ankle sprain
Bonnafon, who is on the practice squad injured list, is tending to a high ankle sprain, Jonathan M. Alexander and Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: In the wake of Christian McCaffrey suffering a high ankle sprain Week 2, Bonnafon was elevated from the practice for both of the Panthers' past two games. In Week 4 in particular, Bonnafon produced in a reserve role behind Mike Davis, totaling 10 carries for 53 yards and two catches (on two targets) for 18 yards and one touchdown. Analysis: Bonnafon took full advantage of his 21 offensive snaps this past Sunday against the Cardinals, compiling 10 carries for 53 yards and two catches (on two targets) for 18 yards and one TD. Analysis: Bonnafon caught a touchdown in the team's Week 4 win over Arizona, but that wasn't enough to keep him on the active roster. This was the second time Bonnafon was reverted back to the practice squad, meaning if he is called up again he will have to remain on the active roster or the team will risk losing him.

Scores in Sunday's win
Bonnafon rushed 10 times for 53 yards and caught both of his targets for 18 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 31-21 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Bonnafon set a new career high in touches while playing just over a quarter of Carolina's offensive snaps. In his extended work, the second-year back produced some big gains, including a 22-yard rush and 15-yard reception. Of course, Bonnafon's touchdown also came through the air, as he strolled free for a three-yard grab off play action to end the second quarter. Elevates from practice squad
The Panthers elevated Bonnafon to the active roster Saturday, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Analysis: Bonnafon suited up in Week 3's win over the Chargers as Mike Davis' backup, but he logged just two offensive snaps and rushed twice for 16 yards. The Panthers' game plan seems to be to provide Davis a Christian McCaffrey workload, so Bonnafon's fantasy value is negligible for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Reverts to practice squad
Bonnafon reverted back to Carolina's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report.
Analysis: Bonnafon heads back to the practice squad after recording two carries and adding a tackle on a punt return while playing a total of two snaps on offense and nine on special teams in Sunday's win over the Chargers. There's a chance the Panthers use their second available call-up on the running back soon with Christian McCaffrey (ankle) projected to sit out a few more games.

Carries twice in win
Bonnafon rushed twice for 16 yards in Sunday's 21-16 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: Bonnafon's two carries came on consecutive plays during the second quarter. In fact, despite his efficiency, those proved to be Bonnafon's only offensive snaps of the game. Even with superstar tailback Christian McCaffrey (ankle) out, the Panthers hardly used more than one running back, with starter Mike Davis playing over 75 percent of the snaps and totaling 21 touches. Moves to active roster
Bonnafon was elevated to the Panthers' active roster Saturday, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports.
Analysis: This shouldn't be much of a surprise. In the absence of Christian McCaffrey (ankle), Mike Davis figures to take the bulk of the workload, but it's entirely possible Bonnafon could factor in should the veteran struggle to move the needle. Bonnafon registered 173 total yards and a TD in an abbreviated stint as the lead back when McCaffrey was injured in 2019.

May be promoted soon
Bonnafon could be promoted to the active roster following news that Christian McCaffrey has a high-ankle sprain, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports.
Analysis: While Mike Davis will likely be the main beneficiary of McCaffrey's 4-to-6 week absence, Bonnafon could contribute occasionally. The Panthers already have Trenton Cannon on the active roster, though, so expect Bonnafon to be the No. 3 in the backfield if he's indeed called up. Time up in Carolina
The Panthers waived Bonnafon on Saturday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Bonnafon served as Christian McCaffery's backup in 2019, but Mike Davis beat him out for the job this season. The 24-year-old Bonnafon only handled 22 offensive touches in 2019, but he flashed competence both out of the backfield and as a receiver in those limited opportunities.

Bonnafon signed a one-year contract extension with the Panthers on Tuesday.
Analysis: Bonnafon was set to be an exclusive-rights free agent in March, but the Panthers opted to lock down Christian McCaffrey's backup for the 2020 season. The 24-year-old Bonnafon was barely used during McCaffrey's historic campaign, but the former flashed versatility in 2019, rushing 16 times for 116 yards (7.3 yards per carry) and a touchdown while catching six of nine targets for 57 yards. Bonnafon rushed 16 times for 116 yards and a touchdown in 16 games played this season. He also caught six of nine targets for 57 yards.
Analysis: Bonnafon made Carolina's roster after the preseason and served as the team's second-string tailback in his first campaign. However, with superstar Christian McCaffrey hardly ever leaving the field, Bonnafon's involvement on offense was heavily restricted. Picks up 12 yards in loss
Bonnafon ran for 12 yards on two carries during Sunday's 38-6 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Sunday's output was Bonnafon's largest since Week 9, a consequence of playing behind Christian McCaffrey. Two touches aren't worth getting excited about, especially when they both came during the Panthers' final drive of a blowout. The rookie maintains little fantasy value heading into Sunday's finale against a middle-of-the-road Saints run defense.

Gets early touch
Bonnafon rushed once for six yards in Sunday's 40-20 loss to the Falcons.
Analysis: Bonnafon surprisingly was handed Carolina's second carry of the day after not toting the rock since Week 9. Despite that early involvement, Bonnafon didn't touch the ball again Sunday, which is usually the case for him behind superstar tailback Christian McCaffrey.

Catches two passes
Bonnafon caught two of three targets for eight yards in Sunday's 29-3 loss to the Falcons.

Limited to special teams
Bonnafon did not record a touch during Sundays's 24-16 loss to Green Bay.
Analysis: Bonnafon did not see the field on offense Sunday, the fourth time in nine games that the rookie has been limited to special teams. Nearly two-thirds of his rushing yardage this season came on a 59-yard run in Week 5 and, playing behind Christian McCaffrey, it's hard for Bonnafon to see more than a touch or two per game. He shouldn't garner fantasy consideration, especially Sunday against an Atlanta run defense that is fifth best in the league, surrendering just 3.8 yards per carry.

Gets few touches
Bonnafon rushed three times for six yards and caught his lone target for seven yards in Sunday's 30-20 win over the Titans.
Analysis: His touches all came in the fourth quarter after Christian McCaffrey had already put together another monster, three-touchdown performance. Bonnafon played eight offensive snaps in total, topping fellow backup tailback Jordan Scarlett's three -- evidencing just how little fantasy value both players hold.
