Enjoys career highs in 2020
McKissic finished the 2020 season with 85 carries for 365 yards and a touchdown and 80 catches for 589 yards and two TDs on 110 targets.
Analysis: His long gain among 165 touches went for only 29 yards, but McKissic otherwise had a career year, establishing personal bests for carries, rushing yards, receptions and receiving yards. He's under contract with Washington for one more season, though it's possible his role is scaled back if Antonio Gibson shows progress as a pass catcher throughout spring and summer. McKissic will turn 28 in August, and he's scheduled for a $1 million base salary in 2021.

Slowed by Eagles
McKissic carried twice for no yards and recorded five catches for 30 yards in Sunday's 20-14 win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Antonio Gibson took on more work in his second game back from a toe injury, handling 20 touches and a 59 percent snap share. McKissic still managed to tie Terry McLaurin for the team lead in targets, and Washington may need to use its scatback more this weekend in a wild-card game against the Buccaneers and their fearsome run defense.

Finds end zone on long reception
McKissic rushed the ball four times for 15 yards in Week 16 against the Panthers. He added eight receptions on 10 targets for 77 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Game script benefitted McKissic, as Washington quickly fell behind 13-0. That allowed him to excel as a receiver, with his best play coming on a 29-yard touchdown reception late in the fourth quarter. Even with uncertainty at quarterback and the return of Antonio Gibson, McKissic has continued to produce and has combined for 133 receiving yards across his last two games. He and Washington will draw a Week 17 matchup against the Eagles.

Racks up 107 total yards in loss
McKissic rushed 13 times for 51 yards and secured nine of 10 targets for 56 yards and a touchdown in Washington's 20-15 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.
Analysis: Facing the team he spent the first three seasons of his career with, McKissic was heavily involved during what was a second straight absence for Antonio Gibson (toe). The veteran easily paced the backfield in carries and rushing yards, and he was second only to Logan Thomas in receptions on Washington. McKissic's six-yard touchdown grab with 7:16 remaining qualified as his first score of the season as well, and he now has three games with at least nine catches on the campaign. Contributes 86 scrimmage yards
McKissic carried 11 times for 68 yards and caught two of four targets for 18 yards during Sunday's 23-15 win over the 49ers.
Analysis: McKissic's involvement increased with Antonio Gibson (toe) sidelined, and he finished with his highest carry total of the season, albeit at the expense of some targets. His usage in the passing game also suffered after Alex Smith (calf) was injured, leaving Dwayne Haskins to lead the offense. McKissic could see his role as a pass-catcher climb back up next Sunday against the Seahawks if Smith is able to play, but his carries will almost certainly decrease if Gibson returns to the lineup.

Heightened Week 14 role awaits
McKissic is expected to handle the bulk of the work out of the Washington backfield Sunday against the 49ers with Antonio Gibson (toe) considered unlikely to play, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.
Analysis: Washington hasn't officially ruled Gibson out for Week 14, but he seems to be trending toward his first absence of the season after being diagnosed with a case of turf toe following his early departure in Monday's win over the Steelers. With Gibson leaving the contest after he was on the field for just four plays, McKissic stepped in to lead the Washington backfield with a 74 percent snap share, while Peyton Barber drew only a 33 percent share. Barber still outpaced McKissic in carries (14 to…read more

Makes 10 grabs in win
McKissic rushed five times for eight yards and caught all 10 of his targets for 70 yards in Monday's 23-17 win over the Steelers.
Analysis: McKissic saw his role expand after starting tailback Antonio Gibson exited during the first quarter with a toe injury and never returned. McKissic set a new career high by hauling in double-digit passes for the first time, which also yielded a personal best in yardage. Should Gibson's status for Week 14 be impacted by his injury, McKissic's stock would figure to rise going into the fantasy playoff season.

Manages just three touches
McKissic rushed once for six yards and caught both targets for 21 yards in Thursday's 41-16 win over the Cowboys.
Analysis: Despite playing 41 percent of the snaps on offense, McKissic rarely touched the ball, taking a back seat to the Antonio Gibson show. Gibson carried 20 times for 115 yards and three touchdowns and caught five passes for 21 yards. It's going to be tough to provide Gibson anything short of a bell-cow role moving forward, so McKissic's role will fluctuate as a pass catcher. He's just two weeks removed from a 15-target outing, so fantasy managers would be wise to stash him on the bench for the time…read more

Racks up 69 scrimmage yards
McKissic rushed six times for 43 yards and caught three of four targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 20-9 win over the Bengals.
Analysis: McKissic was less involved as a pass-catcher after drawing at least six targets in five of the previous six games, but he delivered his second-highest rushing yardage total of the season while topping seven yards per attempt. Fellow running back Antonio Gibson got 16 carries and scored his fifth touchdown in the last four games, as Washington continues to get both the shifty McKissic and the powerful Gibson involved heading into a Thanksgiving Day matchup against a generous Dallas defense.

Scores, adds seven catches
McKissic carried eight times for six yards and a touchdown while catching seven of 15 targets for an additional 43 yards during Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Lions.
Analysis: McKissic averaged just 0.8 yards per carry but managed to score his first touchdown of the season on a one-yard plunge in the third quarter. He mostly made his mark as a receiver and his 15 targets easily led the team, while his seven grabs tied for first. McKissic has been targeted a whopping 29 times over the last two games and will clearly maintain a large role in the offense most weeks when game flow allows, especially with the typically conservative Alex Smith at the helm. Huge role in pass-catching realm
McKissic caught nine of a team-high 14 targets for 65 receiving yards, adding three rushes for 17 yards during Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Giants.
Analysis: McKissic dominated both the RB and the team pass-catching workload, as he attracted as many targets as Washington's second- and third-highest targeted players combined (Terry McLaurin at eight targets, and Logan Thomas at six). The running back's passing game role has been steady for over the past month now, as McKissic has garnered six-plus catches in four of his past five outings, averaging 42 receiving yards per game during that span. Totals 51 scrimmage yards
McKissic carried five times for 35 yards and caught both his targets for an additional 16 yards during Sunday's 25-3 win over the Cowboys.
Analysis: McKissic was quite effective as a ball carrier, averaging 7.0 yards per carry, but he didn't make his usual impact as a pass catcher with his team playing from ahead throughout the game. He could have more passes thrown his way in Week 9 against the Giants following the WFT's Week 8 bye, but he seems unlikely to take over as the lead back anytime soon after Antonio Gibson erupted for 128 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries in this one. Posts 84 total yards in loss
McKissic rushed eight times for 41 yards and secured all six targets for 43 yards in the Washington Football Team's 20-19 loss to the Giants on Sunday.
Analysis: McKissic continued to enjoy a steady role in the offense, outpacing backfield mate Antonio Gibson in total touches by one and posting at least six receptions for the third straight game. The eight carries tied a season high for McKissic, who appears to have a relatively modest but consistent role as a pass-catching option that can occasionally see larger-than-expected opportunity on the ground. McKissic will look to build on Sunday's season-best effort versus the Cowboys in Week 7.

Leads team in targets
McKissic caught six passes for 48 yards on a team-high eight targets in Sunday's 30-10 loss to the Rams, adding one carry for three yards.
Analysis: Washington struggled to move the ball with Kyle Allen (arm) and then Alex Smith at quarterback, trailing by multiple scores for most of the game and never finding any success throwing downfield. The familiar game script -- it was the team's fourth straight loss by 14 or more points -- allowed McKissic to stay heavily involved, but it was still Antonio Gibson who dominated work on the ground with 11 carries for 27 yards. McKissic recorded seven receptions on eight targets for 40 yards in Week 4 against the Ravens. He added two rushes for five yards.
Analysis: McKissic ceded the majority of the work on the ground to Antonio Gibson but still remained heavily involved in the passing attack out of the backfield. Though he lost a fumble to end Washington's second offensive possession, the team continued to turn to him as a receiver as they fell behind Baltimore early in the contest. Falls back in Week 3
McKissic carried the ball five times for 15 yards in Week 3 against the Browns. He added three receptions for 37 yards.
Analysis: McKissic saw his carries slashed from his Week 2 performance as he failed to get going on the ground against the Browns. However, he did manage to produce through the air, paced by a 26-yard reception that set up a rushing touchdown for Antonio Gibson in the third quarter. Surprisingly effective on ground
McKissic carried the ball eight times for 53 yards in Sunday's 30-15 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Remarkably, the fifth-year receiving back didn't even get a target in the game, but he carved out a large share of the backfield workload due to his efficiency on the ground. Meanwhile, Antonio Gibson led the backfield with 13 touches and Peyton Barber was held to only one carry. McKissic could see solid volume again in Week 3, although more of it might come through the air as Washington tries to keep pace with a Browns offense that just piled up 35 points against the Bengals.

Finishes with negative yardage
McKissic played 44 percent of offensive snaps in Sunday's 27-17 win over the Eagles, taking three carries for a loss of two yards and catching one of five targets for one yard.
Analysis: McKissic actually led the Washington backfield in snap share, but his opportunities didn't result in any production, while Peyton Barber had a pair of goal-line touchdowns and Antonio Gibson picked up 44 yards on 11 touches. McKissic and Gibson both were on the field for the first snap of the game, and it was a pretty even three-way split throughout the afternoon. Won't necessarily start
Coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday that McKissic "just happened to be put first" on Washington's unofficial depth chart, reiterating that the team will use a committee in the backfield, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: It was interesting to see McKissic listed in the top spot, but Rivera essentially confirms that it doesn't actually mean much. Depth charts typically are produced by PR departments, and in Washington's case, there was no obvious order for the running backs. Reports from beat writers suggest McKissic, Antonio Gibson and Peyton Barber will all have roles Sunday against the Eagles, while Bryce Love is a wild card to potentially make it a four-man committee instead of three. Listed atop depth chart
Washington listed McKissic as its No. 1 running back on the unofficial depth chart the team released Tuesday, Kyle Stackpole of Washington's official site reports.
Analysis: Though McKissic sits atop the depth chart, his presence there shouldn't be viewed as confirmation that he'll start or receive the majority of the snaps and touches out of the backfield in Sunday's season opener versus the Eagles. Instead, Stackpole speculates that Washington will make use of all four of its running backs in Week 1, with multiple backs occasionally sharing the field together. Moving up depth chart
With Washington cutting Adrian Peterson on Friday, McKissic could be the No. 2 running back, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Washington has cut both Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson this offseason, and while Antonio Gibson is presumed to be the main beneficiary, he's a rookie with no preseason experience. On the other hand, McKissic has a proven, unique skillset, and last season he rushed 38 times for 205 yards (5.4 yards per carry) and caught 34 of 42 targets for 233 yards and a touchdown for the Lions. Sees snaps in slot
McKissic worked out of the slot Saturday, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.
Analysis: The designation is at least worth mentioning, considering Washington's lack of credible depth at wide receiver. Of course, Finlay also mentioned McKissic's struggles at the position in the same tweet, so it's likely just an interesting footnote for a team still trying to figure out its optimal pass-catching rotation. Still ticketed for same role
McKissic's projected role hasn't changed after the Washington Football team released Derrius Guice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: A pure passing-down specialist, McKissic has 91 targets and 88 carries in 35 career NFL appearances, though he did manage 5.4 YPC on his 38 totes for Detroit last year. A $1 million guarantee on his two-year contract suggests the 27-year-old should have a spot on the regular-season roster, but his role has come into question ever since Washington used a third-round pick on runner/receiver hybrid Antonio Gibson. The rookie could steal passing downs from McKissic at some point this year.

Lands in Washington
McKissic agreed Wednesday with the Redskins on a two-year contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: McKissic played all 16 games with the Lions last season, finishing with 38 carries for 205 yards (5.4 yards per carry) and 34 receptions for 233 yards and a score. With Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson leading Washington's backfield, McKissic will likely work as a pass-catching option. He likely won't have consistent fantasy value unless Guice or Peterson are injured.

McKissic became an unrestricted free agent Wednesday after the Lions opted not to extend him a contract tender, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: McKissic played all 16 games for Detroit last season, taking 38 carries for 205 yards and catching 23 of 42 targets for 233 yards and a touchdown. He also saw work as a passing-down specialist with the Seahawks in 2017, but he'll probably need to battle for a roster spot at his next NFL stop.

Small role in season finale
McKissic didn't have a rushing attempt and caught one of two targets for four yards during Sunday's 23-20 loss to Green Bay.
Analysis: Detroit's ability to mount a two-touchdown lead at halftime meant the Lions spent most of the game trying to run out the clock. Had the score been reversed, it's possible McKissic's receiving chops could have played a bigger role in the offense. However, that wasn't the case, and McKissic ultimately saw just a handful of snaps while Kerryon Johnson and Bo Scarbrough once again led the way on the ground. Ready for Week 16
McKissic (stinger) isn't listed on Wednesday's injury report.
Analysis: McKissic was forced out early in the Week 15 loss to the Buccaneers due to a stinger, but his absence from the injury report implies it's a non-issue heading into Sunday's game against the Broncos. With Bo Scarbrough (ribs) back at practice Wednesday in a limited capacity and Kerryon Johnson (knee) a candidate to return from injured reserve this week, McKissic could see his role marginalized in the final two games even though his health is seemingly intact.

Suffers stinger Sunday
McKissic suffered a stinger during Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: In the wake of Bo Scarbrough's (ribs) absence, McKissic and Ty Johnson were expected to handle the backfield reps for the Lions in Week 15. Upon his departure in the third quarter, though, McKissic had just one two-yard carry and two receptions (on three targets) for seven yards. He's questionable to return, but if he doesn't, Johnson and Wes Hills are the only available Detroit running backs on the game-day roster.

May see role increase sans Scarbrough
McKissic and Ty Johnson are expected to headline the Lions' Week 15 backfield with Bo Scarbrough (ribs) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Scarbrough had operated as Detroit's lead option on the ground for the past four games, but his inactive status leaves McKissic, Johnson and practice squad callup Wes Hills as the lone healthy options at running back. Given Hills' lack of prior experience, McKissic and Johnson look like the best bets for touches out of the backfield, with coach Matt Patricia likely to ride the hot hand of the two. McKissic rushed once for two yards while catching all four of his targets for 16 yards during Sunday's 20-7 loss to Minnesota.
Analysis: Yet again, McKissic finished third among Lions running backs in offensive snaps but still saw more touches than No. 2 runner Ty Johnson. However, Bo Scarbrough (ribs) hasn't slipped from his perch atop the depth chart, and nearly all indications suggest the Alabama product will be finishing the season as Detroit's workhorse. Analysis: McKissic seemed poised to take on a larger share of the carries in this one but the newly signed Bo Scarbrough led the team in that regard. McKissic did pace the backfield in targets, receptions and receiving yards, but he still didn't make an overly impressive impact in that area. He also made an impact as a pass catcher, leading the backfield in receiving yardage thanks in part to a 26-yard touchdown reception late in the fourth quarter.
